The Studio and Forum of Scenic Arts is a vocational school taught by United Scenic Artist Local 829 artists who are considered masters in their fields. We are dedicated to training students for careers as artists in theater and film. Classes are offered from 8:30am - 1:30pm on Saturday with a 1/2 hour lunch break to accommodate the working schedules of students and teachers. Classes are held at Scenic Art Studios a professional scene painting studio. The Studio classes are tailored to help students develop portfolio pieces, putting theory into practice while the Forum classes (three offered per semester) are geared for the instruction and discussion of scenic practices. Classes at the Studio and Forum are structured in a way that encourages students to go at their own pace. Students acquire the skills necessary to work at a professional level. We welcome everyone interested in our occupation regardless of training and experience. We invite you to study our craft and train with us for a rewarding future in the scenic arts. The Studio and Forum program gives students the tools needed to function as professional scenic artists. Each semester consists of 13 Studio classes. These 5 hour classes will be geared towards solving specific scenic problems. In addition, to the Studio classes, three Forum classes will be offered each semester. These classes will be taught by working union scenic artists. The Forum classes explore a range of scenic-related subjects from specific techniques and materials to health and safety issues. Forum classes will change from year to year. Dates and subjects will be announced at the beginning of the school year along with a sign up sheet. Fees for the Forun classes are listed on the Tuition's page. Students of the Studio and Forum are expected to pursue scenic work. This work may include painting for Off-Broadway productions, summer stock, and Community Theater, or film. While some of this work may pay, the primary function is to acquire experience in the field. The Studio and Forum of Scenic Arts will in no manner discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, age, disability, marital status, citizenship, national origin or veteran status with respect to acceptance and enrollment of students nor in any of its scholarships.
