ABOUT THE SCHOOL
The Studio and Forum of Scenic Arts is a vocational school taught by United Scenic Artist
Local 829 artists who are considered masters in the field. We are dedicated to training
students and union apprentices for careers as artists in theater and film. Classes are
offered from 8:30am - 2:00pm on Saturday with a 1/2 hour lunch break to accommodate
the working schedules of students and teachers. Classes are held at Scenic Art Studios,
a professional scene painting studio. The Studio classes are tailored to help students
develop portfolio pieces, putting theory into practice while the Forum classes
(three per semester) are geared for the instruction and discussion of scenic practices.

Over the three year course of study, students acquire the skills necessary to work at
a professional level. Training results in a Certificate of Completion from the school.

We welcome everyone interested in our occupation regardless of training and
experience. We invite you to study our craft and train with us for a rewarding future
in the scenic arts.

 THE CERTIFICATE PROGRAM

The Studio and Forum program gives students the tools needed to function as professional
scenic artists. Each semester consists of 10 Studio and 3 Forum classes. The 5 hour
classes utilize many of the techniques discussed in the Forum classes in 3 to 5 week
long projects. The Forum classes explore a range of scenic-related subjects from
specific techniques and materials to health and safety issues. Students are expected
to pursue scenic work. This work may include painting for Off-Broadway productions,
summer stock and community theater, or film. While some of this work may pay, the
primary function is to acquire experience in the field SUMMER WORKSHOP

We are offering a one week workshop (July 07-11)), where students will work
through the basics of reproducing a rendering to obtain a better understanding of theatrical
painting and the materials used by the professionals. Afternoon demonstrations will include
marbleizing, trompe l'oil and wood graining. Call for details
